03/12/2021 – 05/12/2021
From Friday 3pm – To Sunday 1pm
We are thrilled to welcome back to Bude by popular demand the exceptionally talented bluesman, Adam Franklin to teach acoustic blues in his inimitable way. The main focus this time is an introduction to the ‘hot’ rhythmic style as played by Blind Blake, Blind Boy Fuller, Big Bill Broonzy etc. Learn how to play authentic ‘ragtime’, ‘classic acoustic blues’, and ‘hot jazz’ tunes. ‘Finger picking’ , ‘Moving bass lines’, ‘Chord inversions’, ‘ chord runs’, and more. Some time will also be set aside for exploring open tunings.
Adam describes the content -‘Beginning with a classic rag style tune in the key of C, we will move on to add techniques such as ‘thumb rolls’, melody and bass runs. As the weekend progresses, we will look at playing the ragtime style of picking in different keys. Classic blues and jazz tunes will be used to demonstrate this exciting picking style! Although aimed at all levels, knowledge of ‘open chords’ and some experience of finger picking will be useful.’
Adam Franklin has extensively explored the pre-war American songbook. and will show you all the tools and techniques essential to playing these early blues styles.
