COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This is a retreat for fans of Johnny Cash, Kris Kristofferson, Willie Nelson, Hank Williams, Luther Perkins, Merle Haggard, Dwight Yoakam, Steve Earle etc and of course The Eagles. Country music in all its forms is an eclectic genre and on this weekend we will explore the various techniques that go together to create that certain country twang!!

COURSE CONTENT:

We will learn to play all the guitar parts from songs such as Folsom Prison Blues, Walk The line, Me and Bobby McGee, Guitars and Cadlllac's, Guitar Town, Blue Eyes Crying In The Rain, Lying Eyes, Peaceful Easy Feeling etc. The techniques covered include: Alternating bass and strumming patterns, Hybrid picking, Chord linking runs, Pedal steel style, Country licks and scales, Bluegrass runs, Country Rhythm styles.

For both electric and acoustic players.

TUTOR: Fearnly Smith

Fernley Smith immersed himself in Country and Western music from an early age and taught himself to play the music he collected straight from the vinyl recordings, Just like all the best players used to! Fernley has been perfecting this style for over 40 years and has a wealth of live playing experience under his belt. He is in demand as a session player with a number of bands including regular gigs with The Cornish Hillblillies. Aside from his trusty Telecaster Fernley also plays a mean Pedal Steel Guitar which he will be bringing along on the retreat for anyone to have a go at recreating the true sound of Country!

CANCELLATIONS

If for any reason you have to cancel. Please allow at least 1 month before the event start date and we will try to fill your places and offer you another date or a refund. Unfortunately if we cannot re-allocate the places in time we may be unable offer transfer dates or refunds.
